The prints on this page are White Line Woodblock prints. Made popular in the early 20th century by artists in Provincetown, Massachusetts who were seeking a unique and simple way to create handmade prints, they are sometimes known as “Provincetown Prints.” The white lines are carved on to a woodblock and they become the drawing. Transparent watercolor is applied with a brush in small sections between the carved lines, and rag paper placed on the block. I use a kitchen spoon to rub the back of the paper to transfer the image. Each print is hand colored, thus is a unique print, or “monoprint.”
